I’ve never played around with Top Shot and this is purely based on messages I’ve seen on Twitter, Discord, etc.: Aren’t the users super unhappy with their model? I see people complaining about the Top Shot drops and botting activity all the time, not sure if that’s really what we want.
I definitely think re-working the maall all around is very important for enhanced gameplay. I am not too saavvy with how bots and scripts work, but my signal proposal may help mitigate the botting issue?
https://snapshot.org/#/aavegotchi.eth/proposal/QmPvK3E5E4kaJx1ncXZ87MhfxsFAkayC5A5JH8Jnv6frB8
If the items don’t appear at exactly 12:00, then maybe the scripts can’t anticipate the drop? If there’s a bit of a randomness within a 30 minute window for the drop that is announced within Discord, this might help?
I am also against making everything based on luck. Whales would again be able to dominate the market anyhow. They could just stake 50,000 in the rare slot and get the majority of the buying rights.
Please have a read over the signal proposal I put up a vote if you like the ideas behind it Overall, the notion is to promote more gameplay and accessibility. Cheers!
Scripts work based on events. The moment the items are added to the contract, the script fires and buys the items.
The main way to prevent the scripts is to play a cat-and-mouse game where you create ever-complex architecture to try and prevent them from guessing the name of the function to call. There may also be some solutions that involve oracles, but that takes even more setup.
Ultimately any method that relies on speed is going to be prone to botting, which is why the raffle is great because it works independent of speed. But Raffles have their own issues.
I like this idea of incentivizing/rewarding effort/participation. It removes the element of both the richest players or the best bot builders being rewarded the most, but rather those who are engaging with the game. Even something as simple as wearable mining(?) where you stake a certain amount of days for x wearable ie time is rewarded vs cash and is accessible even to the smallest players (not saying there aren’t considerations with that model but just a simple example). But i like the idea of quests (as mentioned in some earlier comments) being applicable here.
The problem with the current raffle system is that new users feel extra burned if they don’t win anything because they had to buy tix to participate. Let’s say you’re new to Aavegotchi and bought $200 of raffle tickets with the hope of getting a rare wearable and checking out the game. If you don’t win anything, now you’re out $200 and you don’t have any wearables. That sucks!
What folks on Discord were discussing yesterday is risk-less direct staking of GHST into the raffle contract. Just like the current raffle system, users would have 3 days to stake GHST directly towards a certain item (or category of items). At the end of the 3 days, the winners would be drawn, their staked GHST sent to the DAO treasury, and their wearables would be sent to them. For anyone who didn’t win a wearable, their GHST would be returned to them – no hard feelings!
Yes, it seems very fair to me. I don’t know how buyers would be able to tell if there’s any bot activity unless certain people always were able to purchase the drops. I would guess it’s just people bitching because they weren’t able to purchase the drop. I’ve done it twice and the first time I was able to purchase the drop and the second time I wasn’t because I was too far back in the queue. The only problem I saw was they had to stop the queue because they had to let the purchases go through. The system was getting backed up. I didn’t lose my place in line. It just stopped for a bit. If you guys just do one article (per drop) at a time using this method, I think people over all would be much happier. If you drop one item at a time, it’s easier to control any issues, then you could have one drop a week or whatever timeline. This also gives the players something to look forward to each week. And then you could still have raffles for other items. Maybe you can talk to a TOP SHOT dev?
This method sound practical
Using notorious_BTC’s idea should we spread them into 5 raffles so we play a guessing game of how players should pace themselves/spread their tickets accordingly? just like how rarity farming has multiple rounds.
and should we use Spudboy07’s idea of randomly selecting users and giving them an allocated time of 15 minutes to make their 1 purchase to actually feel like a shop?
Or should we stick with the bare-bones idea/no more fancy things?
Surprising that noone has suggested a hybrid of raffles and auctions yet. Auctions would eliminate botting activity while still maintaining a “one click buy” shop. The advantages of raffles have been discussed pretty extensively so I won’t repeat that again. An idea would be raffling out 50% and auctioning off the other 50%.
Ideally the solution for wearables could also be applied for the portal drops, since they’ll also be attractive for bots. The “raffle out all wearables” approach wouldn’t really work for those, so we’d an additional solution no matter what.
I’m thinking for an auction-style buy the players will focus on the mythicals and godlikes.
Would be funny to see someone paying 500GHST for an uncommon, albeit that’s not going to be possible considering the large amount of uncommons.
Keep the maal the same is what i say,
How about we make it so that an address needs to have owned 1 gotchi for atleast 2 days.
It will suck for new guys and flippers but at least it’s a very easy way to verify
And yes botters can and probably will just mass address with 100 gotchi’s but atleast it makes it a lot harder for them because each address will need a gotchi worth 300-600 ghst each.
Infrastructure wise this is the easiest thing to implement.
The other idea i have is maybe you need to use x amount of frens to pay as entry fee for before a maal drop.
Also maybe we ditch the maal entirely at some point and just make them rare drops for minigames??
drops from minigames would be nice.
Do not underestimate bots, when i say INFINITE, I really mean infinite.
Oh you think it’s hard to send 1000GHST and 1 gotchi to 100 addresses when the tax fees are low? Or spread my GHST to 100 addresses to farm Frens? same for pretending to be 100 voters instead of 1 whale? I’m not doing it manually, I’m using a script to automate it all. Scammers and bot users from the UNI airdrop became millionaires overnight, I criticize their way of airdropping to this very day. Only the pooling and buying unisocks NFTs made sense.
I know how bots work
It’s just that this was the easiest quickest thing that can be implemented in the meantime
and it would atleast make it that tiny bit harder.
Minigame drops would be best though only new minigames would be unbotted. because give anyone time enough and they will run a script to play a game as simple as a minigame though they would atleast be limited to the amount of gotchi’s
and by pooling you mean to put the amount of cash you’re willing to spend in?
and then you get an item and a refund for your remainder? (or a full refund if items ran out)
maybe items would even be sharded where you put 10 together to get the full thing but this would mean at least 1 or 2 items would be impossible to make if 2 people hold 5 shards so you’d need some kind of system to still make those useless shards useful or refund maybe.
The only other simple option is to add a form where you have to whitelist an address
if the description of why you’re here is duplicate across more than 3 addresses then those 3 or more addresses will be on hold for review.
at least then someone will have to go and manually send in 1000 different descriptions of 50 chars.
Tough to say which is the most fair and least annoying route to take here…
Has anyone suggested to use FRENS as a way to get priority access to the maall?
Imagine a maall drop like raffle #3: 15 godlikes, 200 myth, 300 leg, 750 rare, 1500 common, 3000 uncommon.
FRENS leaderboard (counts FRENS + value of raffle tickets held): top 15 gets maall access to buy one of the wearables for 24h, then top16-215 gets acess for 24h, then top216-515,… up to rank 5765, then the maall is open to anyone.
There are right now 144 adresses staking GHST-USDC, 78 staking GHST-QUICK, 200 staking GHST. 442 addresses in total (likely some unfiltered double/triple counts), so anyone staking would get a chance to buy at least a legendary.
That could create some interesting strategies (a player could climb the leaderboard by buying raffle tickets, by not participating in the next raffle, more staking,…)
maybe it would also be an idea to do a lottery to ensure a certain amount of people get at least an item for sure based on their wallet address
It’s kinda funny see people talking around only about the VALUES.
And see no one talking about the FUN.
Making Value NOT = FUN.
Making FUN\Having FUN while making Value, isn’t it sounds different? Isn’
t it sounds better?
So…
Guys, let me ask you all here.
RF is the aavegotchi game that you came here for? I’m not. I think, I was EXPECTING alot.
I’m not having fun now. I see no game nor clear vision of gameplay designs. Nothing. Everything i know, i a lil alpha look of realm gexes, which were seems like a presentation for upciming land sales… I think it’s.
I would even bet - NO GOTCHI OWNER WILL HAVE A RIGHT FOR LAND FOR REAL. Anly money. We are not the real cittizens of Aavegotchi Realm, the gotchis that “born”, we will must to pay for this. Sounds kinda unfair.
Maal drops is a big trouble to handle, cuz we have a frontrunner here
PROS:
We under cover, whales like the game.
CONS:
Monopoly, concentration, crypto-toxical.
