Custom Aavegotchi logo Sail for Catamaran charter boat

I think the best option is to start an AIP for that.

I know a sail is much different that a billboard but here are costs of a billboard per month around the country. I called for a quote in my area but in my town they are all sold out and cost around $1200 a month. So for the same price as 5-10 years of a sail ad you’d get around 6 months on a billboard. I’ve scheduled a zoom meeting with a marketing company that does advertising on boats around the world to see what the costs to client usually is to get a better idea of the market.

5-6 weeks for production time and around $80 for shipping from the Calvert Sails Loft in St. Petersburg, FL to here- Port Aransas, TX. Looks like we could have it in about 8 weeks if everything works out.
Feel free to reach out with any questions or come sailing regardless of the proposal outcome!

I hoped it was a joke.

What would be the target audience for this ad? Those who haven’t even heard of crypto. The audience needs to be guided into the world of crypto, not just an empty ad.

This is a waste of DAO funds.

@BingoBongo The clients that come sailing with me are generally professionals, most with families, are educated and have investments. They often pay in ETH or BTC for 10% discount, and have Venmo so they are exposed to crypto already 100%.
When they see the 50% discount and onboarding videos on my website AND they see the sail on the boat, they are totally guided by me and are captive/interested in what else I do other than sailing. Our town also has 7 million visitors a year that could see the sail all year-round.
People ask me all the time if sailing is the only job I have and I always go into Aavegotchi and get interest and sometimes odd looks but always more than just an ad thrown in their face with no context or excitement from me.
I’ve already onboarded a great member with just the info on my site and discussion on the boat. They now have 12 gotchis and 5 spacious lands that are built up! These are savvy individuals that are genuinely interested in my story and the newest technology.
Im curious to why you think they wouldn’t be guided? It’s much more than an empty ad. I worked and got the DAO the Demo booth at ETH Denver so I’m clearly a solid supporter of the community since the token presale and for over 2 years i’ve been shilling and promoting the frenliest community in crypto. What type of IRL marketing would you propose instead? Im curious to how you can make $7700 USD go for 5-10 years with IRL marketing? and to have an excited/knowledgeable person to go with that marketing?

I’m the guy who got onboarded by the GHST ship. I am all for the proposal and voted 100% for it. This is exactly the kind of REAL WORLD exposure we need to grow the ecosystem and not be so darned computer bound. Nobody knows about Aavegotchi (or cares) outside of this insular little world. The GHOST SHIP gets real people with real money exposed and interested and T-BURD’s enthusiasm is the best advertising there is. - Tashinamgyal

@tashinamgyal thank you fren! it’s been great knowing you and your family. I appreciate you taking the leap, You hopefully won’t be the last gotchi-pilled guest onboard the GHST SHIP. come back and sail soon!

I gotta admit, I was originally against this idea. But in seeing your enthusiasm @tburd.eth for Aavegotchi over the years and at ETH Denver, I believe this is actually a solid proposal. Here is my thinking:

In its current form, Aavegotchi is a very niche product that only captures the attention of a relatively small group of people. For the longest time, we’ve been branded as this sort of NFT project that also has a metaverse and is a game but also DeFi and yield bearing. Needless to say, our identity has been a bit confused.

Recently with the removal of the Curve, it has become increasingly clear to me that Aavegotchi is a brand and a protocol above all else. With enough brand awareness and a multitude of initiatives, it doesn’t matter if one offering fails. Even the gotchiverse doesn’t have to succeed if the brand itself is growing.

One thing I really love about Nouns DAO and would like to see here more is supporting real world initiatives to bring Aavegotchi out into the world. On that, I would love if we can capture some professional media for the sail. With some great media, we can also have a ton of great content for the broader crypto Twitter to see.

:joy: Thank you. That was pretty funny

Boy! I have mixed feelings about this sail proposal. I used to live in Galveston and have watched the regatta from The Spot on the Seawall for a number of years. The idea of a sail logo is intriguing. My problem whether the marketing objective is sound.

The type of display advertising being proposed is employed primarily to either reinforce the brand identity of an existing brand or it is a call to action for an economic decision- buy this product, use this service, support this cause, etc. Simply displaying the proposed logo on the sail, absent any related marketing activities, at best might interest some prospects to seek further information about Aavegotchi from tburd.eth. That’s an extremely narrow prospect funnel. If the sail message was “Play Aavegotchi” or “Aavegotchi.io” along with the logo then at least it would have the possibility of generating self-qualified leads who could find their own way to the Gotchiverse.

Pixelcraft now has a CMO. It might be helpful to run DAO marketing ideas like this by Nigel for his comments, understanding that the DAO’s marketing objectives may not always closely align with those of PC. We don’t have to act like corporate suits in order to have thoughtful marketing objectives and messaging which we can refer to when proposals like this are presented to the DAO. We’ve funded a few different marketing activities of late but my sense is that these are isolated, disparate actions without much cohesion. I think we can do better.

I think you make great points here and I think running this by Nigel or PC team to provide feedback and guidance is a good idea. The logo on the sail will mainly target those onboard my trip. I will be actively challenging my guests to get 50% off by owning an Aavegotchi, currently $325 USD discount. Visit https://sailwild45.com and you see the aavegotchi logo and link to the main Aavegotchi site. I was at the marina restaurant last night, met a software engineer from Austin. They are booking a trip with me now and saw the aavegotchi stuff on my website and was curious. If I have them out and they get to see the sail, it is a much easier pitch to them about the DAO and how unique our protocol is. People seeing the sail from shore is just a bonus. I could get an inexpensive custom flag made up that says “PLAY AAVEGOTCHI” or something that would always be flying. That would be easy and still visible when the boat was docked. We always have people walking the marina and looking at the boats. For 5 years the $7700 for a sail doesn’t seem like a whole lot of $$$ compared to other IRL advertising methods. Offering the discounts with the sail would add cohesion to the GHST SHIP concept and enhance any media capture/promotion that I can get.

I’m surprised and a bit disappointed that this vote is failing, tbh. Seems like such an obvious vote. I think the DAO is very wrong on this:

  1. It’s a relatively very small cost (not to say we want to throw $ away, but compared to other things …)

  2. Easy/fun talking point. It’s just ‘cool’ to have a branded sailboat.

  3. Support a passionate community members idea, when there is very little risk… sets a good precedent.

  4. (if) Next NFT bull market, wealthy boat owners just looking for things to throw $ around at. Be ready BEFORE that happens. (and I know it’s just one boat but even photos can also get wider attention on social media, etc)

  5. Simple/real world. Frankly I think we could do with a bit more ‘dumb’ real world stuff, that a normie can just relate to “that’s cool, LOL” … and not just more ultra complex on-chain mechanics.

Hope that @tburd.eth will persist or can try again later if this vote fails. It’s a fine idea IMO and should have support for the $.

I think you are absolute correct on the following point:

Here is my reason:

  1. All our holders lives in Texas or are planning to travel to Texas to get a boat ride and not to watch Rockets Explosions.
This is absolutely something we normies can do/relate to!

  2. Our project is not related to NFT at all. We don’t have to deal with “ultra complex on-chain mechanics” at all.

We can onboard people via this boat and they wouldn’t have to know all these pesky complex on-chain mechanics!

  1. There was 0 transaction for discount being offered over a year. There is so much demand for this!

  2. Did you just call this boat “dumb” real world stuff? Not saying I agree but…really? Thats not very nice

Hey, fantasma. I aren’t deleting this one…lol

At this price point * 120+ trips a year.

We absolutely need to support this otherwise tburd can’t afford basic business expense a normal business would accrue in running a boat! (maintenance/repair)

Sound like a very good business to partner with !

How about we get tburd to start a gofundme. You can fund it since its a small cost?

Hows this for a “positive” comments for a change.

P.S. I didn’t write any of these in the discord boat thread. If you think my comment on discord are “negative”. You haven’t seen everything I actually thinks

My discord comments are quite tame in comparison tbh
